The Interdisciplinary Research Seminar on Negotiation (SIRENE) on "Building Bridges: Arbitration and Mediation in Asia and Europe" organized by the Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation Asia-Pacific (IRENE Asia-Pacific) will take place at ESSEC Asia-Pacific on Tuesday, 29 September 2015.
ABSTRACT
In recent years, the world has seen an unprecedented expansion of international trade and cross-border investment. This growth in volume comes with an increasing complexity in the commercial relationships between businesses, investors and states. Arbitration and mediation have met the challenges posed by these developments, becoming the preferred methods for solving international commercial disputes.
In addition, states have discovered the economic benefits of attracting arbitrations and mediations. Singapore has established itself as one of the arbitration and mediation capitals of the world. Paris is another world- renowned center for arbitration and mediation. With one campus in Paris and another in Singapore, ESSEC Business School provides a unique opportunity to connect these two centers.
The purpose of this conference is to build bridges between different legal cultures and legal systems in one of the most fascinating contemporary developments in the law, enabling those working together to learn from each other.
