The Mentoring Program Kick-Off for Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business students was held on Tuesday, 8 December 2015.

Jointly organized by ESSEC Asia-Pacific Career Services and the ESSEC Alumni Association (Singapore Chapter), the Mentoring Program has been designed to facilitate a smooth transition of ESSEC students and graduates into the job market by helping them refine their strategic approach.

The SMIB Mentoring Kick-Off party commenced with an Opening by Prof. Martine Bronner, Dean of ESSEC Asia-Pacific followed by an Introduction of the key aspects of Mentoring by Dr. Anne-Flore Maman, Program Director for the Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business, as well as introductory by Ms Tracy Lim, Career Development Manager, ESSEC Asia-Pacific.

In the ESSEC Asia-Pacific Mentoring program, current students are specially and meticulously paired with mentors after a detailed survey based on their interests, prior work functions or industries and career objectives which they hope to pursue upon graduation.

The key objective of this Mentoring Program is to establish an opportunity for students to learn from their mentors, to develop a deeper understanding of their function or industry of interest, and to build their professional network. These exchanges will allow them to better apprehend the current challenges, shifts in the job market and to equip them with the necessary tools and techniques for the job search.

Mentors in the Mentoring Program are ESSEC alumni based in Singapore and Hong Kong and are currently working in various industries and have voluntarily devoted their time and energy towards helping mentees strengthen their career plans. During the SMIB Mentoring Kick-Off party, students had the opportunity to meet and dine with their mentors for the first time, and to have a better understanding of their mentors’ career and industry experiences.

Eliot Barragne-Bigot, student ambassador of the Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business, added that “With the Mentoring Program, ESSEC is giving us a unique opportunity: to learn from experience as much as we learn from our professors, because at the end of the day it’s not all about book, slides and lectures. In fact, a few months from now, we will be facing several big decisions about our career and aspirations. However, having an ESSEC alumnus as a mentor is a real chance. Not only do we get valuable condensed feedback of several years of professional experience in a specific industry, but also wise words about life and success.

The kind generosity and dedication of the mentors will undoubtedly go a long way towards furthering the career development of future ESSEC graduates.
