Yesterday, AACSB International announced that ESSEC Business School’s accreditation status had been renewed for the third time in a row.
Founded in 1916, AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. In 1997, ESSEC was the first school outside of North America to be accredited by AACSB International. The AACSB accreditation is a sign of excellent quality on all levels of business education. Only 786 institutions in 53 countries worldwide have been awarded this prestigious distinction. The accreditation that has been renewed for the next five years testifies to the high quality of ESSEC’s academic programs, the excellent qualifications of its faculty and a strong international dimension present in its programs and overall strategy.
Obtaining the AACSB accreditation renewal is the result of a self-assessment process and an international peer review during an in situ visit. The process guarantees that the school’s strategy, mission and the plans for implementation are consistent with AACSB’s accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.
According to Jean-Michel Blanquer, Dean of ESSEC Business School, “The renewal of the AACSB accreditation comes at a time when ESSEC is preparing to inaugurate its new campus in Rabat, Morocco, two years after the inauguration of our Singapore campus. This accreditation, a vector of our international reputation, is recognition of the school’s constant efforts to produce innovative, relevant and impactful research; to provide state-of-the-art teaching in all our programs; and to help all our partners to understand the challenges of the future."
The AACSB accreditation is important for business schools and its students alike: it provides an international standard of excellence that serves as proof of the institutions exacting academic standards; it helps to attract top quality professors and students; and the academic degrees are recognized and highly esteemed all over the world. This renewed accreditation emphasizes the fact that ESSEC is part of an elite circle of leading, international business schools.
ESSEC’s iMagination Week: An Innovation that Inspires
Earlier in the year, ESSEC was recognized by the AACSB’s Innovations That Inspire initiative for iMagination Week. The initiative recognizes institutions serving as champions of change in the business education landscape and it underscores the important role that innovation plays in achieving the industry-wide vision for business education. ESSEC’s submission about iMagination Week detailed the inception and objective of the unique seminar dedicated to imagination and creativity. Launched in 2012 for MSc in Management students and deployed in 2015 to all other programs, iMagination Week moves beyond discipline-specific approaches and introduces a unique balance of transdisciplinarity, helping students solve complex global issues by broadening their thinking, developing visionary minds and stimulating the collective intelligence.
