A team of ESSEC Global BBA Year 2 students comprising Keivin Cheng, Megan Chong, Anthony Govindaswamy and Anjali Shenoy clinched the first prize in “Nihongo de Asobou”, a Japanese event held at the Ministry of Education Language Centre (MOELC) Bishan campus on Saturday, 22 October 2016.

“Nihongo de Asobou”, meaning “Let’s Play in Japanese Language”, was organized by the Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS) and supported by the Embassy of Japan in Singapore, the Japanese Association Singapore, the Japanese School, Singapore, the Ministry of Education Language Centre and the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association in Singapore. A large number of students currently studying the Japanese language and culture at tertiary institutions and secondary schools were invited to participate in the event, and instructions for the games were provided only in Japanese, thus participants were required to understand in order to perform well in the games.

Keivin Cheng, ESSEC Global BBA Year 2 student, shares his experience, “It was a humbling experience to meet and interact with people of all ages alike learning the Japanese language at different proficiencies. While the differences in each of our Japanese proficiencies proved to be the main problem in our quest to do well together as a team, we overcame it by our willingness to try and not be afraid to make mistakes!”

Megan Chong concurred, adding that “It was a really fun event and that I met many people from different backgrounds, who really inspired me to improve my Japanese. I really have much to learn.”

It is the second consecutive year that ESSEC has clinched the first prize in this event. Our heartiest congratulations to the ESSEC team for their outstanding performance!
