Dr. Cedomir Nestorovic, Management Professor and Director of the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific, was invited to speak at the 11th World Islamic Economic Forum on 3 November 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.

At the Forum, Dr. Nestorovic spoke at a panel discussion on “Developing a Halal Ecosystem in New Markets.” Panelists for the session included Dr. Cedomir Nestorovic, Mr. Javier Santiso, Executive Director, Investments, and Head of Khazanah Europe, London, Mr. Marcos S. Jank, Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Business Development – BRF Asia Pacific, Singapore, as well as Ms. Hyunju Madison Shin, Global Regulatory Affairs Manager, Daesang Corp., Korea. The session was moderated by Mr. Abdalhamid David Evans, Senior Analyst, Imarat Consultants, United Kingdom.

As the Halal industry grows, countries are looking to capitalize on this growth. However, institutional policies continue to impede progress in this area. During the panel discussion, panelists discussed the right policy changes that can create a strong and sustainable halal ecosystem in these new markets.

In an interview for the WIEF Chronicles, Dr. Nestorovic spoke about the growth of the halal industry, explaining that “the halal industry shares common values with other growth trends such as organic food, non-cruelty to animals and sustainable development. Halal is also very much linked with the concept of tayyib, meaning wholesome, pure food. If the halal industry can succeed in merging all these trends with halal, the majority of the world population, which is not Muslim, would also be interested in halal products.”
