Recognizing a growing demand in the international business community for mediation as an efficient, effective and confidential means of amicable dispute resolution, ESSEC and the Singapore International Mediation Center entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, 19 November 2015.
The MOU was signed by Prof. Martine Bronner, Dean of ESSEC Asia-Pacific, and Prof. Lawrence Boo, Board Member, Singapore International Mediation Center and Resident, The Arbitration Chambers, Singapore.
The MOU signing was witnessed by Prof. Aurelien Colson, Director of the Center of Excellence IRENÉ - International Governance & Dialogue via video-conference from the Knowledge Lab in Cergy, Mr. Ta Wei Chao, Executive Director of the Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation Asia-Pacific, professionals from the industry, and members of the ESSEC Community in Singapore. Under this MOU, the Singapore International Mediation Center and the Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation (ESSEC IRENE) will become strategic partners in the realm of international mediation.
Prof. Martine Bronner added that “Singapore is the perfect place to learn and contribute to the development of mediation as Singapore is aiming to become a hub for conflict resolution in Asia. That is why we really appreciate our cooperation with the Singapore International Mediation Center and are very happy to strengthen our relationship through the signing of an MOU. We look forward to collaborating with SIMC to promote international mediation in Asia, create knowledge and contribute to the practices of international mediation in Asia and Europe.”
The MOU signing was followed by an Interdisciplinary Research Seminar on Negotiation, where panelists from both ESSEC and the Singapore International Mediation Center shared and exchanged views on “International Mediation in Context: Lessons Learned for Effective Conflict Management.”
