In 2021, ESSEC Business School launched the MSc in Sustainability Transformation to further concretize the School’s ecological and social transition initiative: Together. A 1-year program taught in English, the program aims to recruit and train sustainability transformers - strong generalists with a systemic vision of all stakes around environmental and social transition.

On 29 August 2022, the School welcomed the inaugural intake of the program on its campus in Cergy, France. Alexis de La Tour du Pin, Executive Director of the program, elaborates, "We are particularly excited to welcome the first intake of the MSc in Sustainability Transformation. We doubled down on the time and energy spent to attract and select the most interesting talents, and enlarge the borders of traditional business school recruitment in order to be consistent with sustainability principles of inclusion: this first cohort comprises an especially wide variety of profiles, in terms of personality, academic background, nationality, age, relationship to and personal history with sustainability, and I'm sure they will rapidly discover how much they can complete each other. They will become ambassadors of sustainability inside the school, towards other students, staff and programs. And obviously, we have high hopes that they can start fuelling sustainability transformation outside the school once they graduate, with 2 main target roles in mind: Head of Impact/Impact Manager, and Sustainability Consultant."

Students will begin the program through courses on sustainability stakes, management fundamentals on sustainability, as well as impact assessment. After building their foundations in sustainability, they will specialize through one of the six majors of the program, allowing them to deep dive into areas such as Circular Economy, Diversity & Inclusion, Food Transition, Sustainable Finance, Climate & Biodiversity, or Social Innovation.

In line with ESSEC’s focus on learning-by-doing, students will be immersed in the sustainability ecosystem through learning expeditions to Provence and the Campus de la Transition, and conclude the program with an internship or academic thesis to apply their newly-acquired knowledge and competencies.
