Abstract

Japan is a developed economy that is facing a rapidly aging population with increasing life expectancy and low birth rates. According to WHO, Japan's total expenditure on healthcare in 2014 was 10.2% of GDP. Health Technology Assessment plays a large part in determining drug/device reimbursements, and in April 2016 the Japanese government launched a pilot program of cost effectiveness evaluation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. A veteran at market access and health economics outcome research in Japan, Mr Bruno Rossi will share his views of recent trends and challenges of HTA in Japan for pharma and medical device industries, as well as best practices that he has observed.

About the Speaker

Mr. Bruno Rossi is a member of ISPOR, HTAi and DIA Japan and, with Satoru GK, an independent consultant in market access, pricing and reimbursement. Until 2015, he was Head of Market Access for Bayer in Japan and led the Medical Economic Evaluation Committee of EFPIA Japan. He graduated from Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP) and the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO) in France.
